How much money will the business owners want me to pay to place my machine?
What kind of income can I expect from my Gumball Factory machines?
A. No. This is not a franchise. There are No franchise fees. No royalties, No advertising fees…No Kidding! There are no contractual obligations of any kind. You are free to operate your business in any manner you think best. This is free enterprise.
We sell business related equipment only, (1 year equipment warranty) and we will not interfere with your business operation in any way. However, you will have all the support of a franchise to help you grow and develop your business. We are here to help you as long as you own your machines.
Q. Can I get an exclusive territory?
A. No. We know that some companies "promise" territories however for the sake of practicality and simplicity we do not ‘police’ our buyers.
Q. How many machines do I have to buy?
A. You can start with just one machine or take advantage of our package-pricing. Not everyone can invest a lot of money in starting their own business. We do offer a special one-machine package for new operators. Just place the unit on location, run the product through and you keep all the money. You can use the cash to buy additional machines and expand your business. This way, the business has to justify and finance itself. You can start small; kind of get your feet wet a little at a time or save on shipping costs, and start with multiple machines. We want you to get started with what works for you.
Q. How do I get my machines in malls?
A. Meet Keith and Debbie Black (How they placed their first machine in a mall). They began with one Gumball factory machine: They now have a total of 22 machines. Keith is a Pastor in a small church and needed to make extra money in order to support his family of four. He wanted a business that was simple to operate and would not interfere with his career. He purchased his first machine on January 6, and determined a great high foot traffic location would be the local Mall.
Keith simply picked up the phone and called the mall office and made an appointment with the mall manager for " 5 minutes of his time" to demonstrate a new entertaining gumball machine. Although the manager was reluctant at first, he agreed to see the machine. On the day of the appointment Keith had the machine plugged in and ready to go right outside the manager's office. After watching the Gumball Factory in action the manager poked his head back into the office and invited all the staff to come into the hallway to see the machine in action! Before it was all over - the manager spent a full three hours with Keith showing him the best spots to place the machine. Keith eventually placed two machines in that particular mall. The machine grossed over $1,000 the first month it was placed at this location.
That first mall location - proved to be a great find because the mall manager was so impressed with the machine he recommended Keith to several other mall locations. Keith said, "I checked on the machine on a Saturday morning and there must have been 30 kids waiting in line to use the machine. It was great!"
About 45 days after placing that first machine Keith placed seven more. With a total of eight units Keith said, "Those first eight machines grossed a little over $250 a day. I now have 10 machines placed. If I had ten more machines I could place them right now. This whole thing is absolutely phenomenal!” (Note: The Blacks now have over 20 machines.)
Remember, malls aren't the only good spots out there: restaurants, airports, tourist locations, large department stores, bowling alleys, food stores, flea markets, fairs, amusement parks, video stores are examples of great high traffic locations where the machine has done extremely well.
Q. How much money will the business owners want me to pay to place my machine?
A. The amount of money you choose to pay a mall, or any location for that matter is negotiable. Keith Black pays the mall a percentage of his monthly gross. Bob Burton, an attorney prefers to pay the mall a flat monthly fee of $250. Remember, you are paying about 1.7 to 2.0 cents for a gumball. You are charging 25 cents. Your mark-up is over 1,000 percent! A fair commission to pay a mall for a machine making about $1,000 a month would be $300. If it makes $600 a month - don't pay more than $120 in commission.
Q. Are any special licenses or insurance required?
A. Basically license and insurance requirements for vending machines are minimal. There are very few legal requirements or restrictions for candy or gumball machines. Some large cities require a sticker to be placed on your unit. The cost for this "vending machine license" is generally a few dollars per year. Although most places don’t require any type of permit, call and check your local requirements to be sure. Liability Insurance is required by most malls.
Q. What kind of income can I expect from my Gumball Factory machines?
A. The income will depend on the location and can vary quite a bit. The average seems to be approx. $350-$450 per month (this is based on a 25 cent vend, if you vend for 50 cents this would be higher). To look at it another way, the average number of vends is approx. 1500 per month so if you were to vend for 50 cents, your income would be $750 per month or 750 euros or 750 pounds. Compare this to the small gumhead machines that produce $10 - $20 per month. You would need to have over 20 little machines to do what one Gumball Factory machine can do on average in a month. Wouldn't you prefer to visit one site instead of 20 for the same income? You can even vend bouncy balls or toy capsules designed for a dollar vend. Only 20 vends per day will generate $600 per month. Think about your favourite family restaurant. How many kids would you say visit that restaurant on an average day? How many would use your machine?
"I am pleased to report that our machine grosses between $350 and $550 per month so far".
--L. Wilson (Ontario, Canada)
"Our first machine was placed at our local swimming pool and earns close to $30 per day!"
--T. and G. Anderson (Alberta, Canada)
